SANDS OF TIME BY JENNIFER CHIOMA AMADI

Let’s take a walk on the sands of time
Leaving solid footprints which neither
Threating waters or terrible winds ever
Wash or wipe off the trailing of its line

Like stamps we imprint records of our lives
Consisting of timely memories of how well
We graced the hurdles and journeyed through
The earth’s many hiccups yet we’re never erased

Each day in time, we start out to set a pace
For generations yet unborn, what becomes
Legacies they’ll preserve like treasures
Forever even when our flesh turns to dust

Many would bear the same names as ours
Howbeit none would walk our walk, neither
Would they talk our talk or even write words
Like ours, for we are made of different patterns

As long as we’re here, let’s stride valiantly
Relentlessly writing what would be tomorrow’s
History in an era we know not and seemingly too far
Yet so close it could come in the twinkle of an eye

And when the curtains of life’s play draws to a close
And every scene we’ve lived flashes before our eyes
May relief fill our very being that though the flesh dies
Our names are boldly written in gold in sands of eternity.

  1. Beautiful piece, my favorite lines would be..

… We are made of different patterns…
The entire last paragraph but these lines especially …”may relief fill our very being that though the flesh dies, our names are boldly written in gold in sands of eternity.”
